How is completion verified?
Project owners mark applications as complete directly on the platform. If a project owner is unresponsive, volunteers can request a completion review after 30 days — our team will follow up. Project owners can also leave an optional rating (1–5 stars) and written feedback, which you can choose to show or hide on your private dashboard.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
You can browse all available volunteering opportunities through our Volunteering Dashboard. Click on "Volunteering Opportunities" in the main navigation to access a comprehensive list. You can search, filter by skills, project category, location, and activity type. Each opportunity shows detailed information including required skills, time commitment, and location type (virtual or on-site).
-
Our volunteering dashboard features a dynamic search system. You can search by typing keywords related to the opportunity or project name. The search updates automatically as you type. You can also use multiple filters simultaneously — filter by project category, required skills, activity type (hours per week), country, or check the box to show only virtual opportunities.
-
We offer both virtual and on-site volunteering opportunities across various Palestinian projects and organizations. Opportunities range from 1–5 hours per week to 25+ hours per week, spanning different categories like nonprofits, research organizations, tech companies, and advocacy groups.
-
We offer both virtual and on-site volunteering opportunities. Virtual opportunities can be done from anywhere in the world. On-site opportunities specify the required location. You can filter opportunities by location using our search filters — either select a specific country for on-site work or check the "virtual opportunities only" option.
-
Click on "View Details & Apply" on any opportunity card in the dashboard. This takes you to the detailed opportunity page where you can read full requirements and submit your application with an optional message. You must be logged in to apply.
-
No. VFP does not facilitate or handle any payment transactions. While some opportunities may offer compensation, any payment arrangements are made directly between the volunteer and the organization. VFP serves as a platform to connect volunteers with opportunities.
-
We have opportunities requiring diverse skills: Development & Engineering (web, mobile, DevOps), Design & Creative (UI/UX, graphic design, content), Business & Strategy (project management, marketing), Research & Analysis, and many others. Each opportunity lists the specific skills required, and you can filter by your skill set.
-
Time commitments vary from 1–5 hours per week to 25+ hours per week. Each opportunity clearly states the expected weekly commitment and duration (typically 1–8 weeks). You can filter opportunities by activity type to match your availability.
-
Project maintainers review applications based on required skills, experience, and fit. Once you apply, the project owner will review your application and can reach out through the platform's private messaging system. You can track your application status in your Volunteer Dashboard. When all slots are filled, the opportunity auto-closes. If a volunteer drops out, the maintainer can reopen the opportunity to accept a replacement.
-
No. Your email and contact information remain completely private when browsing. Your email is only shared with a project team after you submit an application AND they accept you. This privacy-first approach ensures you stay in control of who can reach you.
-
Browse all registered projects through our Project Showcase page. You can filter by organization type (nonprofit, research, tech, advocacy, etc.), project phase (concept, development, launched), and view only projects with active volunteering opportunities.
-
Project teams can message applicants through the Application Management page. Volunteers can reply via their Application Dashboard. Both parties can also reply via email, and the full conversation history is saved on-platform for reference.
-
We take this seriously. If a project team hasn't reviewed your application after 2 days, we automatically send them a reminder. If they still don't respond, we send a second reminder after another 2 days, and a final reminder 5 days later. If there is still no action after 9 days total, the opportunity is automatically closed and your application status is updated to "No Response". You will be notified by email at this point so you can apply elsewhere.
-
When a project accepts enough volunteers to fill all available slots, the opportunity is automatically closed as "filled." Any remaining pending applications are set to "No Response" and those volunteers are notified by email. If the project later needs more volunteers, the maintainer can reopen the opportunity — all previously pending applicants are automatically restored and notified that their application is back under review.
-
Yes. We understand that circumstances change. If you've been accepted but can no longer participate, you can drop out directly from the opportunity page. You'll be asked to provide an optional reason, and the project team will be notified immediately so they can find a replacement. Both volunteers and project maintainers can initiate a drop-out, and optional feedback can be left during the process.
-
Your application can have one of these statuses: Pending (under review by the project team), Accepted (you've been selected — contact info is now shared), Completed (the work is done and verified by the project owner), Declined (not selected for this opportunity), No Response (the project didn't respond and the opportunity was closed), or Dropped Out (you or the maintainer ended the engagement after acceptance). You can track all your statuses from your Volunteer Dashboard.
-
Project Health reflects how responsively an organization engages with volunteer applications. A Healthy project is actively reviewing and responding to applicants. A "Needs Help" project has had opportunities auto-closed due to no response but has at least one accepted volunteer — they must address remaining pending applications before posting new ones. An Idle project had zero accepted applications across all auto-closed opportunities and must contact the administrators to reactivate. Archived projects are no longer active on the platform.
-
Yes. Project maintainers of an Idle or Archived project can request reactivation directly from their project page by clicking "Request Reactivation" and sending a message to the platform administrators. Once reviewed, an admin can restore the project to Healthy status.
